Cambodia is a small country in Southeast Asia located between Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. It is most famous for Angkor Wat, the ancient temple complex shown on the national flag, which reflects its importance to Cambodian culture.
Phnom Penh, the capital city, is a busy and fast-growing center located where the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers meet. Modern buildings and cafes now stand beside old French colonial architecture. Siem Reap is well known for tourism because of Angkor Wat, while Sihanoukville is a coastal city famous for its beaches.
Cambodia has a population of around 17 million people, mostly Khmer, and Theravada Buddhism strongly influences daily life and traditions. Although the country suffered during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, Cambodia has continued to rebuild and develop, with many young people focusing on the future.
